Under Age Drinking

Please expand and read the below regarding under age drinking and a message from the Bar Committee.

After a meeting with the Bar Committee last night, the following has been agreed; any queries do  not hesitate to contact me.

The Bar Staff will not serve anyone under the age of 18.  If their age is in doubt they will request ID.
Posters have been put up around the club to this effect.  Bar Staff will be reminded of this, and a reminder left behind the bar.

If there is a special occasion (eg cup match) for the under 17’/16’s, where by a sit down meal is served, parents/managers will be able to purchase beer/cider or wine for the lads and will need to supervise them.
A bowl of chips after a normal Sunday fixture does not constitute a meal!!!

I appreciate the Bar has not always policed this particular well and previous youngsters have enjoyed underage drinking at the club.  Unfortunately with the anti-social behaviour we experience in the car park from young people (hasten to add not from the rugby club), we are always going to be on the radar of the police, and youngsters will appreciate everywhere now requests ID in town, so we are not requesting something new.  We therefore need to ensure we do everything in our power to show we are a responsible club.

The Bar Committee would appreciate every members cooperation after all it is the Rugby Club’s revenue stream and reputation at stake. We therefore ask for everyone to help us by informing all members of the club, parents, and the boys themselves of this new drive.

The Bar staff are all volunteers, and therefore do not need the added stress of confrontation from people who object to this, it is the law and we are just trying to adhere to it.  If a parent is found to be buying drinks for underage children, they will be asked who the drinks are for, and if persist will only be served 1 drink.

Can I therefore ask you to send out this email to all members of the club, and also ask that Managers/Captain/Club Captains inform everyone by word of mouth (no excuses for not seeing the email/posters).

Chairman/Treasurer of the Bar Committee
