2009 - 2010 Under 15'sCoach: Nick Carver (Mob. 07879 474778) Coach: Simon Brooks Fixture Secretary: Martyn James (07802333584) Frampton Cotterell RFC U14s 0 - 34 Berry Hill RFC U14s Sunday 25th January 2009 saw Frampton under 14s host Berry Hill in their third match in the Gloucester cup. Following 2 excellent wins in the previous 2 weeks against Widden and Stow on the Wold this match was by far the most difficult for an improving Frampton side. Frampton began well from the kick off and excellent rucking, quick ball along the back line and kick and chase from winger Damian Cordukes nearly created an opening for a first score. Frampton pressure continued for the next 10 or so minutes which presented several opportunities to score, only superb defence from the Berry Hill players kept Frampton at bay. Frampton were unlucky not to have come away with some early points for their efforts with the Frampton pack dominant in the scrums that had resulted from the many knock on’s due to the muddy conditions. A strong and technically astute Berry Hill pack, with an outstanding back row, presented major challenges for the Frampton forwards; they met these challenges and competed very well. Berry Hill grew in confidence from their defensive exertions and began to convert this into attack. Excellent handling and interplay from forwards and backs alike resulted in the first of Berry Hill’s tries. More sustained pressure, coupled with defensive lapses and poor tackling from Frampton, allowed the visitors to score a couple more tries. Late in the first half saw a lineout just outside the Berry Hill 22 and a subsequent ruck and pass from the Berry Hill scrum half saw openside flanker James Carver intercept and head for the corner try line, unfortunately, stout cover tackling from the Berry Hill back row and fullback stopped James in his tracks and a awkward fall resulted in him sustaining a nasty injury to his wrist. This meant a stop in play for treatment and subsequent journey to hospital It was later confirmed he has broken his wrist in several places.] Unfortunately, for James and his team mates, he will be out for the rest of season. At the restart the Frampton team rallied for their mate and some excellent play almost resulted in a score for the home side. Again, Berry Hill had to up their defensive game and they successfully cleared their lines. One more Berry Hill try before the half time break meant the score stood 24 points to nil for the visitors. The second half began like the first with early pressure from Frampton and solid defence from Berry Hill. The Frampton side stuck to task and competed well against and ever stronger and well drilled Berry Hill side. Two further tries from Berry Hill took the final score to 34 points to nil. Although the result was not in Frampton’s favour the whole squad competed very well and deserve the compliments from Frampton and Berry Hill coaches and supporters.
