Frampton Cotterell 29 Nailsea& Backwell 5 13/9/2003 Frampton 22 - 15 Saracens (Scorers: Dave Lawrence 3 Tries 1 Con, Chris Pitt 1 Try.) Frampton told on a much bigger Saracens XV with a balance of older and younger players. Saracens took control for the first 1/4 using there forwards to control the scrum and the loss play to win the ball, resulting in them taking the lead scoring the first try, but failed to convert. Frampton started to take good line out ball, with great jumping and Tim Phillips clearing up and winning the loss ball which allowed the backs to run at Saracens setting Dave Lawrence up with his first try of the day, to equal the score at half time at 1 try each. The first game of the season last week saw Frampton 3rd team take on a Hambrook XV in memory of Bill Pitt a founder member of Frampton who died earlier on in the year. Hambrook fielded a strong XV including 12 X-Hambrook school pupils, most of them having played first team for Frampton over the years. Bill would have enjoyed to see players performing, that he not only took under his wing at school rugby level, but at club level as well. Bill also played in the same teams as his former pupils up to the age of 70. The game saw Hambrook run a number of tries with the end result being... Frampton Cotterell 3rd 7 Hambrook 54 2002 - 2003 Third XV Captain: Tom Harris Season end: Played 22, Won 6, Drawn 3, Lost 13 (full details to follow...) 18/01/2003 Old Colstonians 5 - 22 Frampton Cotterell Frampton started well against experienced opponents, getting the better of the early exchanges. It was the multi talented Frampton Captain Tom Harris, this week on the wing, who bro ke the deadlock with a long run down the left and touching down under the posts, only to have the kick missed by the otherwise reliable Phil Salvage, 0 - 5. Not long after, more Frampton pressure was rewarded after a scrum, then quick hands involving all the backs, Simon Rossiter twice, looping round to finish a text book move in the corner, 0 - 10. Old C's hit back with a cheeky quick penalty catching Frampton napping before the break, making the score 5 - 10 at half time. The second half continued much the same as the first with Frampton looking good for a win. A driving maul was briefly held in the corner until Frampton's young Prop, Will Mace saw a gap and dived over for his first Senior try for the club, 5 - 15. With heads up, Frampton continued the pressure, Jerry Boaden reacted quickest to a poor clearance from Old C's No. 10 putting Jay Suckling over via the post, Ouch! - Phil redeemed his earlier misses with the 2 points to round off a brilliant game for the 3rds. This added to wins by both Frampton's First and Second XVs on the day - a good day for Frampton Cotterell RFC. 8/11/2002 Played 7, Won 3 Lost 4 After a few mismatched fixtures to start the season the 3rd XV have now strung a few good performances together, 3 wins in a row... 2001 - 2002 Season Captain: Tom Harris We ended the season with the following results: Played 24 games, including two 'B' team games (although we cancelled 4 games and the opposition cancelled 3 games). Won 10, Draw 1, Lost 13. Points scored 399, Points conceded 600 (taking into account 3 heavy defeats totalling 208 points against, next year we will be closer to breaking even). 17/11/01 Frampton 19 - 12 Old Sullians 2nds Sulians played a tight first half, scoring one try before the break. Frampton started the second half well, with quick handling allowing Wayne Kay to score, but a lapse in concentration and poor tacking allowed Sulians a try under the post. This stirred Frampton's pack and from the kick-off, Mike West took control and stormed over from 40 metres. Lawerance added the two extra points. Frampton stepped up a gear and dominated the rucks and mauls, allowing Lawerance to either kick for position deep into Sulians half, or dictate when to release the backs. Mark Bowen then scored a fine individual try, converted by Lawerance and Bowen was unlucky not to score again. 20/10/01 Frampton 28 - 12 Aretians Playing the game with only 13 men for a spell in the first half, Frampton did well to contain Aretians, but at full strength Frampton took control, the pack in particular getting the better of the close play. Tries, first from ?? breaking through the midfield, and ??, both converted by fly half David ?? had Frampton turn around 14 - 0 up. Aretians started the second half with a score themselves almost from the kick off, 14 - 5. Another try soon afterwards meant the thirds had lost their cushion. With some rather dubious refereeing decisions, Framtpon crossing the line from a ruck, only to have the effort dissallowed, all credit to the thirds for coming back with 2 more tries, the first from our new prop Paul ?? ..... and then to make the game safe David ?? took the initiative from a Frampton scrum in the 22 after some great counter attacking from winger Jose, to sew up a convincing win. 6/10/01 Frampton 17 - 19 BAC & Old E's An extra game for the thirds, this was an entertaining game to watch (as I did for most of the match!) played in the right spirit. Frampton looked in control at the start, taking a 12 nil lead and looking good for their second succesive win. Giving a game to a lot of their replacements unsettled Frampton for the second half, but credit to BAC though for coming back, ending the game 3 tries each and winning by the odd conversion - this had made the last quarter nerve racking to say the least, perhaps we shouldn't have lent them Geoff to make up the full side for the visitors. Almost as dissapointing as coming back to the club house to see England 1-2 down to Greece with only minutes left.... 2000-2001 Third XV Coach: Nick Penfold
