2009-2010 Match Reports here... 2010-2011 Frampton Cotterell 3rd XV - 17 BAC 2nd XV - 17 Tries: Scott Salvage, Simon Woore, Alex Stell Conv: Mike Weaver Weaves waivers to concede a draw This 3rd team fixture turned out to be a closely fought game with both sides having chances at securing the win. BAC drew first blood with an unconverted try. Frampton forwards were ineffective in the first 40 minutes. Continual kicks to touch for the lineouts didn’t give Frampton any advantage. With a good set of backs Frampton would have been better running the ball but they didn't take chances. After one phase, Frampton had ball the ball on the BAC 5m line for 3-4 minutes but failed to use an overlap and eventually knocked on. BAC then worked themselves back up the pitch and a lapse in tackling saw them go over for a second try, this time converted. Half time score 0 – 12 Frampton regrouped in 2nd half playing better intelligent rugby and they were soon rewarded with a try by Scott Salvage but the conversion was missed. This was quickly followed by a try from Alex Stell again unconverted making the score 12 – 10. A good succession of phases and good work in the forwards saw the ball whipped out where Simon Woore powered over the line for the score. This time converted by veteran fly half Mike Weaver. Frampton now leading for the first time sat back allowing the opposition to take group themselves and it wasn’t long before they levelled the score. With minutes to go Frampton were awarded a penalty kick certainly within kicking distance, so up stepped veteran fly half Mike Weaver. Unfortunately he wavered under the pressure and conceded to the draw.
Good performances were had by Scott Salvage, Alex Stell, Mike Weaver and Tony Williams who returned from a long spell out of the game after knee surgery.
A fair result in the end with fair refereeing from Pete Zaffiro. Saturday 2nd Oct 2010 Broad Plain 3XV - 12 Frampton Cotterell 3XV - 12 Frampton would have won back the Derek Mayer trophy on the away rule , If Broad Plain had found it ,but a draw was a great result for Frampton.
Frampton were thrown into disarray as the referee did not turn up so it was left to veteran fly half Mike Weaver to marshall a competetive game with some ill discipline from several senior players from Frampton.
Barry Whitehead opened the scoring for Frampton with a fine weaving run but he , and captain Kev atkinson , could not cope with Weavers officiating and badly let themselves down with abusive comments.
Plain hit back to take the lead but Chris Perrys vocal outburst on the outside of Dan Ellis , allowed the offload and Perry touched to a loud cry of ''come on Frampton''
The thinner member of the Woore brothers, Nick , converted and Frampton were level but never had quite enough to win even with the outstanding Man of the Match , Edgy weaver.
Whitehead was eventually yellow carded by Weaver for naughtiness at a ruck and Nathan Cole was also lucky as he decided to take the law into his own hands with some handbags at dawn.
With minutes remaining , Whitehead was again involved in controversy and the Plain crowd had obviously seen more naughtiness, but Weaver decided to give him the benefit of the doubt with the bribe Mr Whitehead had offered.
A big thanks again to John 'Barack' Britton for his third team managerial duties and some juicy oranges at half time.
Saturday 18th September: Whitehall 3rd XV - 35 Frampton Cotterell 3rd XV - 8Tries: Carl Groves, Penalties: Mike Weaver
Frampton travelled to Whitehall with a bare fifteen, some young and some old.
They came up against an experienced Whitehall side and despite a gallant display, they were always second best.
Frampton conceded an early try but bounced back with a penalty from skipper and fly half veteran mike weaver. Another weaver penalty would have given Frampton the lead but it hit the upright. Strong play from back row Tim Phillips and man of the match Ricky shepherd got Frampton back in the game but a breakaway try set Frampton back.
Frampton refused to lie down and an exceptional try from Carl groves mazy run put Frampton back in the game, unfortunately that was the end of the game as a contest. Injuries to Jake Philpot and groves had a damaging effect on the balance of the team but it meant a front row debut for the enigmatic Fergus Allen.
Frampton huffed and puffed but three tries from the home side saw them sew up the game.
Frampton returned to there clubhouse where Ricky shepherd was awarded the new man of the match trophy, the ashes from the ceremonial burning of last years award.
