Frampton battle to overcome local rivals...
Frampton were made to work hard for their victory at neighbours North Bristol RFC.  Despite securing a stream of possession from the set-piece, with William Pearce, Charlie Willis and Joe May to the fore, the visitors couldn't break down a determined North defence.

In fact it was the hosts that scored following a storming breakaway and scores were tied at 10-10 at the interval.  A number of charges from Charlie, Morgan Stiles and Tom Howell failed to dent the North line and as both teams fearlessly piled into the tackles and rucks it was difficult for either side to move the ball wide with such pressure being applied in the contact area.

The entry of more pace out wide following the introduction of Henry Hayett and Eddie Mitchell in the second half started to turn the game in Frampton's favour, with Eddie and Morgan Lewis both grabbing a brace of scores to secure a final score of 10-30 to Frampton.
Season 2008-2009

Sunday 1st March 2009

Frampton ease through the group stages of the Gloucestershire Cup unbeaten to earn a quarter final draw with defending champions Hucclecote.

The team started the day in fine style inflicting the first defeat of the season on tournament hosts Drybrook. Frampton competed well in the tight against a very direct host side and made the most of their pace and organisation out wide.  A brace of tries from Toby Crowley and scores from Morgan Stiles and Morgan Gingell secured a comfortable 20-10 win.  Against Fairford, lots of little errors meant Frampton struggled to turn lots of possession and field position into points, eventually running out 5-0 winners and setting up a group-decider against the similarly unbeaten Cirencester.

Probably the match of the day, both sides sought to run with the ball and the quality of tackling from both sides was excellent.  After a scoreless first half Cirencester took the lead with a well worked try after a period of pressure on the Frampton line only for the visitors to take the game straight back to them, based on some excellent running and distribution at fly half by Henry Hayett.  As Frampton camped on the Cirencester line, excellent recycling work, with Oliver Carey and Charlie Willis to the fore, eventually released Jack Mellor to break the line and tie the scores 5-5.  The result meant a tie for top spot, with Cirencester going forward as group winners by virtue of tries scored.

This set up a quarter final with the defending champions, Hucclecote RFC.  Early pressure put Frampton in good field position but the opposition, who had not conceded a try all day, proved too powerful and well organised to succumb to a critical early breakthrough - although if two attempted interceptions from Morgan Gingell had gone to hand it may well have been a different story!

Tom Howell ships the ball to Liam Plant to launch a Frampton attack

The Gloucester side's strength at the breakdown continually secured them good ball and a long range break opened the scoring.  The reigning champions greater size and power started to tell in the second half and despite some magnificent defensive work from Oliver, Toby and Tom Howell in particular, they eventually run out 0-15 winners.

The Frampton Cotterell RFC U9 team came away with well earned respect for playing a very high standard of rugby and doing so with good sportsmanship.  All in all, a very good day much enjoyed by players and spectators alike.

Sunday 25th January - Frampton U9's V Old Bristolians U9's
Frampton return to winning ways

After last weeks defeat Frampton were determined to make amends and started the game strongly. Some great ball handling in the backs and strong running in the forwards saw Frampton apply the early pressure on the opposition but a lapse in concentration saw the home side cross the line. Frampton replied with attacking rugby especially from Charlie and Henry. Their hard work was soon rewarded with a well worked try which Henry Hayett started with an electric break which was finished off by Toby Crowley. The game continued quite evenly with some great tackling by the Frampton defence especially Morgan Styles and Tom Howell. The second half saw Frampton continue to apply the pressure but some basic errors kept them from crossing the oppositions line. Tom continued his great performance with strong tackling, rucking and an all round great defensive display that earned him man of the match. Frampton then upped the pace and two great individual runs by Toby Crowley saw him cross the line twice even after performing a juggling act near the line after making a break and running the length of the pitch. A hard fought win for the team. Lets hope the determination continues next week for the return clash with Dursley at home.

Tour update
Only 91 days to go until the FCRFC Mini's Spring Tour to the mystical land of Wales - The home of dragons and mythical beasts, where gangs of coal-blackened miners roam the misty valleys threatening strangers with their close-harmony singing.
Because the Tour date is close to Easter, we have a Christmas theme this year.  The itinerary is coming together.  We will meet on Friday evening for the now traditional Welcome Briefing, Choir Practice (we have a new Tour Song that will need to be learned) and Tour Court event - or session as it is sometimes known, depending on your age.
Saturday will be a free day to either enjoy the facilities of Kiln Park or venture off site to, for example, Oakwood Adventure Park.  We looked to do a group booking for Oakwood however they were not offering any significant discount for a group our size.  Given the potential cost, and the limited facilities for those with much younger families, we felt it better to give everyone the option to do there own thing.  Do remember, however, that whilst this is a "free" day, Tour Rules will still be in force !!
For Saturday evening, after Tour Court, we will be having a Christmas Party, which includes a visit from Santa, and also our first ever FCRFC Mini's "Tour Virgins Grand National".
On Sunday morning the Players (U8's, U9's, U10's)  have an international fixture against Pembroke Dock Harlequins RFC.  We will stay and socialise with our hosts over lunch before the Tour Awards and Closing Ceremony.
The accommodation is booked through to Monday morning for those wishing to return to the Site for another night.
What Next ?
As soon as possible, can you drop me an email with the full names of all those attending Tour, plus the children's dates of birth.  The latter is needed for registration with the Site, plus it helps us to order correctly sized Tour Shirts
Final payment falls due on Sunday 15th February.  I will send out an individual statement of account in the next few days or so and would appreciate if you can hand cheques (made payable to FCRFC) to either Tommy, Wayne or myself.
We will have a Christmas Committee meeting in bar somewhere in the Frampton area towards the end of February, so anyone wishing to help with organising the arrangements, please let me know.
The full and unabridged Tour Guide, plus associated bits and pieces, will be issued towards the end of March.
Trust this is helpful and any questions/problems please let me know.
Sunday 18th January - Frampton U9's v Chew Valley U9's
Frampton fall to powerful Valley Team

Powerful running and excellent ball retention skills by Chew Valley saw Frampton fall to their first defeat of the season.

In the first half of Game 1, Frampton had no answer to strong running by the visitors and went in five tries down at half time.  The home side woke up in the second half, however, to stem the flow, with Jack Griffen scoring on debut as the game finished 5-30 to Chew Valley.  The second game was much closer fought with man of the match Liam Plant organising the back line to create a couple of excellent well worked tries for Toby Crowley that involved all of the team.  It was not enough, however, and despite some thunderous tackling from Tom Howell, Chew Valley's strength and organisation at the contact area ensured they came out 20-25 winners.

Good sportsmanship, and some great rugby. played by both sides gave a well earned and hard fought result for the visitors ...... and an eagerly anticipated re-match in the near future ! !

Sunday 11th January - Frampton U9's v Cleve U9's
Frampton win hard fought game with local rivals

What promised to be an exciting match soon lived up to its expectations. With the wind blowing and the possibility of rain looming, the frampton players were determined not to let the elements spoil the day. Frampton began well with several players out of position (must have been some strategic plan by coach Willis). The lads played some excellent rugby with both sides working hard. At half time the game was evenly poised with no tries scored by either side. In the second half Frampton stepped up a gear and a combination of strong running, great ball handling and determination saw Frampton win the match 20 points to nil.

A second game again was hard fought with the result being much closer, but with Frampton finishing 10 - 5 winners.

.......with the players now feeling victorious, there was only one thing left to do and that was to provide coach Pearce with a customary celebratory birthday 'pile on'. Pearce thought he had dodged the celebrations but with no 1 son in the thick of it he had no chance!

 Sunday 21st December

XXX Frampton tame the Broncos XXX
On Sunday Frampton hosted their close rivals, the Thornbury Broncos. The game began explosively with both sides battling to get the early upper hand. Some excellent rucking saw Frampton push towards the Thornbury line and great delivery from the scrum half saw Morgan Stiles in the centre go over for his first first try of the morning.
