Club Ethos

FRAMPTON COTTERELL RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

CLUB ETHOS STATEMENT

Respect

Mutual respect forms the basis of our club. We hold in high esteem our club, its values and traditions and earn the respect of others in the way we behave. We respect our match officials and accept their decisions. We respect opposition players and supporters. We value our coaches and those who run our club and treat Crossbow House with consideration.

·         No abuse to match officials from players or supporters. This includes before, during and after matches. Remember without the officials there will be no game.

·         Inform your captains/coaches of availability and fitness.

·         Respect your fellow team-mates by training when you can, to make these sessions productive and give 100%.

Teamwork

Teamwork is essential to our sport. We welcome all new team members and include all. We play selflessly: working for the team, not ourselves alone, both on and off the field. We take pride in our team, rely on one another and understand that each player has a part to play. We speak out if our team or sport is threatened by inappropriate words or actions.

·         Encourage your team-mates throughout training and games.

·         Make training when you can and informing people when you can’t.

·         Help out with what is needed around the club, be it putting kit away, cleaning changing rooms etc. It is all our responsibility. Volunteer, don’t wait to be asked.

·         The building of a strong team is reliant on commitment of all its members.

Discipline

Strong discipline underpins our club. We ensure that our sport is one of controlled physical endeavour and that we are honest and fair. We obey the laws of the game, we support our disciplinary system, which protects our sport and upholds its values. We observe the sport’s laws and regulations and report serious breaches.

·         Only communicate to the officials on the pitch through captains or nominated individuals.  Constantly questioning decisions penalises the team and the club long-term.

·         Playing hard but playing fair. Ill discipline costs both you and the club and its reputation.

·         Theft or deliberate damage of club or its member’s property will not be tolerated.

Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship is the foundation upon which rugby union is built. We uphold the rugby tradition of camaraderie with team-mates and opposition. We observe fair play both on and off the pitch and are generous in victory and dignified in defeat. We play to win, but not at all costs, and recognise both endeavour and achievement. We ensure that the wellbeing and development of individual players is central to all rugby activity.

·         Congratulate your team-mates and the opposition after every game, regardless of the result.

·         Embrace the hospitality shown by other clubs, and extend the same hospitality when they visit us and behave as ambassadors of Frampton Cotterell RFC.

Enjoyment

Enjoyment is the reason we play, we are not forcing anyone to be here so make sure you get the most out of your rugby club. The more you put in , the more you will get out.

·         Rugby is all about enjoyment and the camaraderie of being with friends.

·         Everyone’s time is valuable so make it enjoyable by playing and behaving in the spirit in which rugby is intended.
