2nd XV v Old Colstonians
FRAMPTON 2XV UNLUCKY AT OLD C’S

Frampton were unlucky in this local encounter and left it too late to raise their game.

With both sides competing on level terms in the first half it was old C’s who claimed the first points going over for the try but missing the conversion. Frampton backs pressured the home side with some great strong runs with scrum half being particularly influential.

After captain, Plant, left the field with a groin injury, Mark Chadwick gave more strength to the pack with lock Adams moving to No8.

The game continued evenly but with the Frampton pack having the upper hand and driving well from the lineout.

Old C’s then claimed their second try but again missed the conversion.

Frampton then replied with a try of their own with No8 Adams powering over for the try. Robbins was successful with the conversion.

The home side extended their lead with a penalty just before half time.

Half time score  13 – 7

Frampton upped their game in the second half with the forwards starting to compete allowing the backs to run some lines of play but the Old C’s defence holding strong. After some great mauling from Frampton they found themselves just 5 metres from the try line. With a scrum awarded No9 Godfrey darted over for Framptons second try. Robbins successful with the conversion.

With the game very close, both sides increased the intensity and battled well. Scrum half Godfrey then made way for Matt Bohr and Frampton upped the tempo.

Frampton were unlucky not to come away with the win as some late phases saw them pressure Old C’s back on their line but some borderline decisions by the referee put the penalty count against them. The last 5 minutes proved to be nail biting as Frampton strived to keep the ball alive to get the score but to no avail.

A close fought and spirited game.

Man of the match Andy Godfrey.

Whitehall  37 - Frampton Cotterell  0
Unfortunately, Frampton 2’s couldn’t repeat last weeks performance and came up against a stronger more experience side.

Playing in wet and in areas, boggy conditions, and with an American referee, the first half saw the home side rally several tries with Frampton struggling to match the size and strength.

Some poor tackling from Frampton did gift them a couple of tries but the rteam didn’t give up and kept going to the end of the first half.

The second half saw an improved Frampton side and as the momentum built up they found themselves in their opponents 2  but just could not finish. Frampton started to tackle well in defence and put some passages of play together and it was some time before Whitehall went over for their only try of the second half.

Frampton finished strongly but again just couldn’t complete the pass.

Rebuilding required for nexts weeks encounter.

Frampton Cotterell  13        Chipping Sodbury  5
Frampton made the better start in this local derby. Good pressure from the Fram pack and good lineout ball game them a good platform with which to release the back line.

An early offence by the away side allowed Tom Bowen-Hall to step up and collect the 3 points.

With Matt Bohr at scrum half, the Fram pack were guided well and after 10 minutes they pressured hard towards sods line with some good mauling ball. The deadlock was broken when Bohr darted off from the back of the pack to cut through the defence and cross the line extending the home sides lead. Bowen-Hall was just wide with the conversion.

This woke Sodbury up and they then played some good rugby of their own but with Fram determined to keep them out some match winning tackles were put in especially by centre Andy Parsons who was awarded man of the match.

Frampton continued to dominate the lineout and good clean ball to the 3 quarters allowed them to enjoy some good running running but the final pass just wasn’t good enough with knock ons and forward passes giving the scrum to the opposition.

Continued pressure then saw Frampton closing in on Sodburys line and after several trundles amongst the forwards Mark Cadwick crossed the line for Frampton’s second try. Bowen-hall was unsuccessful with the conversion.

Sodbury did respond and some quick feet from the centre saw

Half time score 13 – 5.

Frampton made some changes at half time one being the long awaited return of scrum half Paul ‘Rocco’ Whitehead. He continued where Bohr had left off giving clear instructions to the forwards and letting them know exactly where he wanted them.

The change did seem to have an affect and Fram came off the gas allowing their opponents to have more of the play but as the half went on Frampton edged closer to Sodburys line but just could not finish. A series of scrums and lineouts edged Frampton closer and it made a tense ending but with the final whistle sounding the second half had brought no score.

Final score  13 - 5

FRAMPTON 2XV SECURE MERIT TABLE WIN AGAINST BARTS

Frampton 2xv travelled to Barton Hill for this merit table fixture.

With conditions extremely wet and windy and a lot of lying water, both sides took some time to adjust and get into their game.

Frampton forwards enjoyed most of the early possession but just couldn’t set the backs off. Some lapse tackling around the ruck eventually let the home side in for their first unconverted try.

Frampton raised their game and some good rucking allowed them to feed the ball out to the backs giving Steve Handy space to run and go over to level the score.

Continued pressure from the Frampton forwards saw Barts begin to make mistakes. Frampton held strong at the scrums and scrum half Andy Godfrey playing his first game after injury passed the ball out well to put winger James Smith in at the corner which was converted by Bowen-Hall.

The second half continued much like the first with the Frampton pack enjoying some good passages of play and slowly working their way up the field. More pressure allowed Steve Handy to break the opponent’s line and make a strong run and crossing the line for the try with was again converted by Bowen-Hall.

Great defence from Frampton kept Barts at bay for a period of the game but a couple of missed tackles allowed them to cross the line for their second unconverted try.

Frampton continued to battle hard in the adverse conditions with some good play and were rewarded yet again with some slick hands allowing winger James Smith to get his second try.

Barts responded with another try after some missed tackles let them through but Frampton secured a great win with the try of the game from hooker Jamie Evans who picked the ball up and darted 30 yards through the centre to give Frampton a 29-15 win.

A spirited performance in far from ideal conditions with Tim Phillips being awarded man of the match with continued pressure in attack and tackling in defence.

FRAMPTON 2XV BEATEN BY WELL DRILLED DINGS SIDE
Frampton 2xv were unable to build on their first win from last week after coming up against a well drilled young Dings side.

Frampton did open up the scoring after a kick down field gave them the lineout. Lock Gary Plant caught the ball cleanly and the Frampton pack drove over with prop Andy McClelland getting the try. A great kick from Tom Bowen Hall made it 7 – 0.

This sparked Dings into action and they played some good interlinking rugby between forwards and backs. Frampton strived to get into the game and put together some good passages of play themselves but they couldn’t quite keep with the pace of the Dings.

In the second half Nathan Jones was forced to leave the field making way for Tom Bohr but Frampton kept their heads up but lapse tackling was a sign of being beaten by the better team.

The final blow came when centre Declan Carroll eventually admitted defeat and left the field with a shoulder injury putting Frampton down to 14 men thus giving Dings the overlap on a  couple of occasions. Final score 7 – 47.

Scrum half Matt Bohr played extremely well with constant communication and bossing at the base of the scrum and ruck.

FRAMPTON 2XV OUTPLAY LOCAL RIVALS

Frampton 2xv made the short trip to local rivals Chipping Sodbury and came away with their first merit table win of the season.

With a much heavier pack than previous weeks Frampton showed their dominance in the rucks and mauls and started to put together the plays that had been practised in training. Locks Cole and Chadwick made their presence felt and they were rewarded early on after a strong drive released flanker Matt Jones to go over for a try which was converted by veteran fly half Mike Weaver.

Continued forward pressure allowed Nathan Jones who stepped in at scrum half to offload the ball well to the backs where Declan Carroll made several attempts to break the Sodbury line but some good defence by the home side stopped them in their tracks. Sodbury were eager to put the pressure on the Frampton line but just too eager at times when Frampton were awarded a penalty for offside. Up stepped Weaves to slot the penalty home to give Frampton a 10-0 lead at the break.

Several changes by Sodbury at half time changed the game slightly with both sides becoming more physical. Frampton raised their game and were determined to get the win and when the ball was flung out along the backs this allowed Steve Handy to touch down in the corner for a text book try. Again, Weaves showed he still had the boot giving Frampton a 17-0 lead.

Some bad discipline in the latter part of the game saw Frampton concede a debatable penalty try but a further offside decision against the home side saw Frampton take a further 3 points and secure a well earned victory over their local rivals with the final score being 20-7 and Sodbury not actually crossing the Frampton line.

FRAMPTON 2nd XV MUSCLED OUT OF WIN

Frampton 2nd XV made the short trip to neighbours Kingswood looking for their first win of the season. With yet a gain a much changed side from previous weeks, Frampton were slow to get up to speed and some sloppy defence allowed the home side to cross the line for the first try of the game.

Frampton raised their game and great work by the front five allowed Frampton to work their way up the pitch. With Cornish and Tim Phillips leading the way Frampton inched their way into the opponents 22. An offside decision then gave Frampton a penalty which was well taken by centre Declan Carroll.

Some good defensive work and team effort kept the home side at bay and with Framptons forwards and backs started to link they again saw themselves in the opponents half. Kingswood were again penalised and Carroll duly stepped up to slot home another penalty. A further penalty from Carroll saw Frampton go in at the break 9 – 7 up.

Several changes to the Kingswood side at half time saw a difference and Frampton found it hard to contend with the pressure although showed some good passages of rugby. A 20 point margin for the home side at the final whistle didn’t really reflect the game and Frampton will build on this for next weeks eagerly awaited match with local rivals Chipping Sodbury.
